The "American dream" is something that is just displayed in the movies because it is fictional. When people see this in the movies they go out and try to experience that sort of life for themselves. Once they realize that this life cannot be achieved. The real life experience is getting a good education, support a family, and get a steady job. This is what real life is all about and achieve them is very achievable. Once people realize this they begin to spread their way of doing things to others and they start to do it.
The real vs. The "American Dream" is a very big difference. The real life experience is a goal that can be reached. It is much more fulfilling to live life to the fullest. It also has it pros because raising a family and getting a good education is a wonderful life to live.
I can see your point in believing that the "American Dream" is only seen in movies, but even the movies had to get the idea from somewhere. There are many stories about people achieving a great life through hard work, and taking risks. For some living life to the fullest involves working very hard to climb the latter of success, where others are contempt with how their life is and chose to live life to the fullest where they are. I believe it is all about how one percieves "living life to the fullest".
ReplyDeleteI think that is a good point that Americans believe in a so-called American dream because of Hollywood. We assume that equality and total happiness is possible but really it's just an imaginary thing that has been percieved as real through the portrayal of its realisticness in movies. (Is realisticness a word?) The only problem with getting an education and a job and thinking that means you will not have debt, or problems with your American dream, is that there are still people who will not be able to afford their lives even with an education and a career. Some people aren't cut out for what they get themselves into, or they get stuck with a disability or an accident happens, whatever it is I'm just saying there's not always hope for perfection if you get an education and a good job. But you're completely right that these things help to better your life and increase your chances for wealth and higher social class.
